Where is Villamartin?
Villamartin sits on the eastern coast of Spain, in the Alicante province, and is part of Costa Blanca.
The community of Villamartin is 78km/44 miles away from Alicante, making it an accessible destination to explore the rest of the region. The closest town is Torrevieja which is just 13km/8 miles away.
It is a relatively new development in the Costa Blanca region. Although construction started in 1972, in the last decade it has blown up, and as such is now home to 1500 apartments, villas, and houses.
While Villamartin is an inland destination, there are plenty of beaches just 4km/2.4 miles away, which takes just a few minutes in a car, or is a walkable distance for those without.
How To Get To Villamartin
Villamartin is easily accessible from either Alicante airport or Murcia airport. From the airport in Alicante, it is a one-hour drive south, and only a 20-minute drive from Murcia.
If you don't have a car, it's no problem. There is a shuttle bus from Alicante airport which is the best option for comfort on a budget.
Alternatively, you can travel by bus, but you will need to take 3 buses, one from Alicante to Torrevieja, the next to C.C. Zenia Boulevard, and the final one to Villamartin. The entire journey takes around 3 hours and is an affordable option for those with time on their hands.
Unfortunately, there is no train from Alicante to Villamartin, but you can take a taxi from Alicante airport which will cost around €90-€120.
Most international visitors will arrive at Alicante airport, but if you're arriving at Murcia, you will either need to rent a car or take a taxi to get to Villamartin.
What's The Weather Like In Villamartin?
Part of Villamartin's popularity comes from its climate. The hottest months are July and August when the temperature averages around 29°C/84°F during the day, with warm evenings of around 22°C/71°F. During those months, there is also zero rain, making it the perfect summer vacation destination.
Villamartin receives very little rain in general, with the maximum days of rain per month averaging at just three during the winter months, making it a destination with over 300 days of sunshine per year.
Speaking of the winter, the lowest temperatures that Villamartin experiences happen between December and February when the average temperature during the day is a mild 16°C/60°F, with nights that drop down to around 7°C/44°F. For those coming from a cold climate, 3 days of rain and t-shirt weather in January seems unheard of, which is no wonder why the area is so popular with ex-pats.
For those who enjoy the feel of the warm sun on their skin without too much heat, the perfect months to visit are May, with daily average temperatures of 22°C/71°F, and October which averages around 23°C/73°F.

Villamartin is a destination that would suit almost everyone. With endless sunny days, sandy beaches close by, and plenty of golf, most people can find something to do easily.

Villamartin is part of Spain and as such uses the Euro as its currency. Prices vary depending on the type of break you want. If you are looking for basic accommodation, prices start from around €75 per night, however, if you are part of a larger group or want a luxurious base to relax in, a 5 bedroom villa with a swimming pool will cost around €320 per night. Mid-range restaurants range from €10-€18 for a main course.
Things To Do In Villamartin
Villamartin is most famous for its two golf courses, Campo de Golf Villamartin and Campo de Golf Las Ramblas. It gained its popularity as a golf haven after Campo de Golf Villamartin was home to the 1994 Mediterranean Open.
For those who prefer beach hopping to golf, there are plenty to choose from, several of which have the European Blue Flag, which is only given to beaches with high standards of water cleanliness, safety, and good facilities. The best beaches nearby include La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Playa Flamenca, and Campoamor. All of them are white sand beaches that are relatively uncrowded, even in the heat of the summer.
While the plaza of Villamartin is an excellent spot for bars and restaurants, it's also home to a number of African Ringneck Parrots which are fun to spot while enjoying a glass of wine.
